TRANSITION DAY

Up early but not to go on a game drive, but to pack up for the next stop on the trip; Pangolin Chobe River Lodge. Actually, I did do a lot of the packing the night before, but needed to check everything to ensure I was ready. My Bush Plane was scheduled for 9:30am departure, I basically had my light breakfast and then hung around the Camp taking photos of birds. I did a little video tour of the site as well.

About 9am my guide came by to take me to the airstrip to wait for the plane. Each of these Camps in the Okavango are responsible for getting to the airstrip early and making sure there is no wildlife in the way of the landing aircraft. When we arrived, there were quite a few Baboons hanging around, so the guide went about shooing them away. The plane arrived about 40 mins late but that’s just something you have to get used to around here. I boarded the plane and was on my way to Kasane, but had three stops at other Camps along the way.

Once I arrived at Kasane, the Pangolin staff met me and we then made the 5 minute drive to their lodge. After checking in and dropping my bags in the room, I hung out in the reception area waiting for the first outing on the Chobe River in the Pangolin Photo Boats. We headed to the river around 3pm, which was only 5 mins from the lodge. We go on the boat and spent time on the river. We saw a lot of wildlife, including elephants crossing the river, Crocodiles taking chunks out of a dead Hippo in the water, and many birds. It was a good introduction to taking photos in the boat since I would be spending a lot more time in these boats over the next week.

We came back after sunset and had a wonderful dinner at the lodge in their outdoor dining area. The lodge itself was well appointed, the room was large with lots of desk space for photography gear, computers and charging electronic devices.

I would be staying in the lodge for just one day as I will be going to their houseboat for three nights the next day.
